Shell Collector Card Series

Last week I spent a bit of time with Mum sorting through bits and pieces. We found these stashed away in the back of a cupboard.

These were available at Shell Service Stations. the idea was you collected all the cards, then inserted them into the book.

This book had a weather theme. Note: I didn’t try to spell meteorology.

Butterflies and Moths.

Australian Beetles.

IMG_0011

Shells, Fish & Corals.

Citizenship. This one is a bit dated, many of the jobs/roles simply don’t exist anymore.

Birds.

There are no dates on these books. Does anyone have any idea when they were printed and how many were in the series?

Hello

Notice that this post is fairly old but just found it as I too had found one of the collector books from my childhood. I have the shells, fish and coral one and I am pretty sure that it's from the late 1950s, possibly very early 1960s but no later than 1961. Hope that helps.

The Meteorology set is from 1964. Google scanned newspapers comes up with an advert from The Age in 1964.

Some of the cards in this set are gorgeous. My favourite is the picture of a Queenslander house in a tropical thunderstorm.
