The Crafters' Way 65 - What's On

I write a weekly column for a local paper. I share it here with bloggers or you can view online at www.northlakesmessenger.com.au

Here is a list of some ‘crafty’ doings for September.

THE HANDMADE EXPO is on again on the 20th September. The inaugural Expo was a roaring success with 87 stalls of quality handmade products. No imported junk here. Over 2000 people made the trek to the Ipswich Showgrounds to enjoy the atmosphere. Doors open at 8am, with the Expo continuing until 2 pm.

The Expo is a great place to get a headstart on your Christmas shopping. Stalls featured Children’s and Adult Clothes, Soaps, Jewelry, Bags, Homewares. There was even some delicious homemade fudge.

For us on the Northside Ipswich may seem a little far. Don’t be put off. Grab the family and pack a picnic lunch. You can enjoy the expo on your own, Dad can take the kids to Queens Park. The Ipswich Nature Centre is open 6 days per week and is free. On the 3rd Saturday of the month they have a petting zoo (the 20th is the 3rd Saturday). Queens’ park is a prefect spot for a family picnic.

A NATURAL INSPIRATION, is an exhibition of hand-woven and Shibori dyed and stitched, wearable textiles, by Beatrice Jackson. The exhibition is at Gallery 159.
159 Payne Road, The Gap, Brisbane. The exhibition runs till 28 September. The Gallery is open Weekends 11am – 4pm, other times by appointment. Contact Janet De Boer for further information.. (07) 3300 6491

ARTISAN’s retail outlet (M)art is featuring work by Kyoko. Kyoko designs all pieces with functionality and simplicity in mind. Japanese Culture influences all designs. Simple lines, careful colours and basic weaving are combined to become desirable objects. Kyoko makes most of her scarves from soft lambswool using a little loom before felting.
