The Crafter's Way 11

Each week I write a craft column for a local newspaper. Once its been published I share it with bloggers.

“The Railway Modellers Club of Qld Inc is a club for those who like to model, make, run and play Railways.” This description is from the club’s website. On a recent visit to the club on their regular Wednesday session I discovered that the RMCQ was this and a whole lot more.

I was quite astounded to learn that the club had members with a vast range of hobby and craft skills. Club member Richard McTaggart says that some members rarely run trains preferring to be involved in other areas. People with an interest in timberwork make the stands that the tracks and scenery sit on. Realistic scale scenery is created using a variety of methods including paper mache and foam modeling. Even people with floristry skills are in demand to create grass, bushes, and intricate flowering trees.

In addition to their Wednesday Session the club holds meetings every second Saturday of each month. Their aim is to have a brief formal business session first followed by an entertainment session and then afternoon tea. The entertainment may take the form of a slide show or talk on prototype information or a clinic giving instructions on modelling topics, scenery methods, electrics, track laying, etc.

The club has both male and female members and also caters for juniors. Their youngest member is currently 6 yrs old with their oldest being 80yr. It certainly is an activity for the whole family.

Their clubroom is located in Buckley Park, Terrance Rd Brendale. For more information have a look at their website wwwrmcq.mixedpick.com or phone Darryl on 3264 1647
