Each week I write a craft column for the North Lakes Messenger. I share with bloggers once it has been published.
If you’re feeling like a day out with a difference you may enjoy a day trip to the southern end of the Sunshine coast.
Our first stop was at Jenny King Designs at Kulin ( Maroochydore). Jenny has everything a creative crocheter could desire.
We then backtracked to the highway, took the Forest Glen exit to the Patchwork Angel. This patchwork shop is set up in an old church, which only adds to the atmosphere. They sell their own stitchery designs, have an extensive class list and plenty of fabric to inspire. You will find the Patchwork Angel at 343 Mons Rd. Forest Glen. Ph: 54770700
Opening hours: Mon- Fri 9 – 4.30, Sat 9 – 2.
Right next door is the newly opened Beadboard Designs. Beadboard Designs specializes in Freshwater Pearls, Gemstone Beads and Sterling Silver Beads. Proprietor, Nelle Collier has over 10 years experience in the gemstone beads and jewellery production trade. She has exhibited as far afield as Arizona, USA and Tokyo, Japan. Beadboard Designs is at 347 Mons Rd, Forest Glen. Ph: 5476 5407.
Leaving Forest Glen we continued on the Mons Rd, much more scenic than the highway, into Buderim. Our first stop was the Tiffany Jones Art Gallery. This art gallery is an investment art gallery, which also has many affordable pieces for your home. They also have an unique gift line called Art to Give, Art to Wear. A piece of polymer clay artwork is attached to a card, which can be given; the artwork can be removed and then attached to a necklace etc. From April 1 through to April 15 an exhibition by Denise Daffara, Femme Fantastique, will feature at the gallery. The gallery is at 138 Burnett St, Cnr Townsend Rd. Buderim (its on the main road through town). Ph: 5450 1722. Opening hours are Tues – Sun 10- 5
Our last stop was Nimble Stitches, an embroiderer’s heaven. This shop is tucked in behind a wonderful Venetian Coffee Shop. There is a vast range of threads, fabrics and expert help is available. Classes are offered in Smocking, Stumpwork, Ribbon Embroidery and Patchwork Techniques. Classes are small, relaxed and very friendly, with special attention given to the beginner and advanced alike. Nimble Stitches is in the Avocado Gardens, 65 Burnett St, Buderim. Ph: 5476 6495
Have a safe drive.
