The Crafters' Way 53 - Meet the Makers

I write a weekly column for a local paper. I share it here with bloggers or you can view online at http://www.northlakesmessenger.com.au/
Meet the Makers

Regular readers of this column will be familiar with the name Craft Qld. While they have changed their name to Artisan their commitment to contemporary craft and design remains unchanged. Artisan continues to offer innovative and diverse Craft via their Gallery, (M) ART and Ivory 24-7.

Ivory 24-7 is an exhibition window facing Ivory St. Fortitude Valley. This space lends itself to innovative exhibitions and is a treat if you enjoy window-shopping. Their Gallery Space offers major exhibitions complemented by floor talks by artists and curators. (M)ART is the retail space with Artisan. (M) ART offers unique, quality objects by Queensland and Australian Designers. ( M) ART also offers a Meet the Makers program.
The next Meet the Makers is to be held on the 27th June. The makers are Angela Tsune, Justine Austin and Chiko Jones.

Angela is a visual artist based in Brisbane. She is a print maker who enjoys working with paper, mixed media and bookbinding techniques. Angela spent 3 years living in Japan and this coupled with a lifetime of creativity has influenced her work. See Angela’s unique signature albums designed for ‘adding creativity to your life’.

Justine Austin is a Jeweller who is attracted to small intimate objects. With a background in antique jewellry Justine recognizes the language, ritual functions and histories of jewelry. “I draw upon my knowledge, humour and jewellry language to show the true spirit of the piece.”

Chiko Jones was brought up in Japan where she developed an appreciation of ceramics. Chiko finds her inspirations in the colours of seasons, landscapes and textiles. The colour inspires images which leads to the creation of intimate objects.

Artisan is at 381 Brunswick St. Fortitude Valley. If unfamiliar with the area I recommend catching a train.
