But who cares. Today, inspired by an article in a tourist magazine, we headed to Salford. We only found one of the listed places of interest but we were not disappointed.
We came across this footbridge. I was rather confused by the uprights at either end. We thought that they may be used to open the bridge for tall boats to pass through but there was no noticeable ‘split’ in the bridge.
We crossed over to get to the Imperial War Museum, as I looked back through the pylon I spied this tourist boat. We were both still a bit puzzled about the bridge; there was no sign nor was there any information about its purpose.
We were chatting about this when all of sudden we could here a siren. It went on and on with seemingly no reason. And then….
The whole bridge started moving up….
….and up. We waited around a bit to see why the bridge went up but nothing was happening so we decided to continue down the path to the museum.
Then the second footbridge started its siren and slowly it started swinging way from the banks.
I was mesmerised and thoughts of visiting the canal had disappeared completely.
Completely open but for what?
For this. Down under one bridge.
And passed the second. Wow! We did eventually find only one of the listed places of interests,(yes, it was a pub) but I wouldn’t have missed those bridges for anything.

Wow Trish - I reckon that experience alone was worth the price of the air ticket. Love following your adventures.
