The Crafter's Way 120 - Time to Shine

This week's Messenger column.

Time to Shine

The Pine Rivers Art Gallery has a gift shop that stocks a wide range of local handcrafted items. The Gallery is hosting a “Time To Shine” an exhibition showcasing works by the gallery gift shop artists.

The exhibition features the works of thirty-five artists including: Tricia Smout, Ginnie Dawson and Bruce Ellem. See original paintings from print and card ranges, prize winning works and special pieces created for this exhibition. The Gallery shop is also filled to the brim with new and exciting treasure just in time for your Christmas Shopping.

In conjunction with the exhibition there will be opportunities to meet and see the artists at work.
5 December 1.30pm – 3.30pm: see Wildlife Artist Sandra Temple
12 December 1.30pm – 3.30pm: see Textile Artist Tricia Smout, Painter Michelle Caitens and Wildlife Artist, Renee Tremi.
Remember the column on Scratchboard from earlier in the year? Renee uses a technique of etching into a thin layer of white china clay that has been coated with a black layer. This results in finely detailed drawings. The board is perfect for creating a textured look for drawing wildlife, especially those with fur and feathers.

To see Tricia Smout at work will be a real treat. Tricia creates mixed media artworks many of which feature calligraphy and symbols. Her exhibition artwork features her signature style. Not one to be missed.
Time to Shine continues until 24th December. For more information Ph: 3480 6941
A quickie : “Hammer, Axe, Needle: Living Skills & Crafts of the Past” continues at the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum until 17th January 2010.
