The Crafters' Way 97

Here is this week's Messenger column.

Mixtape Magazine

With increasing interest in all things crafty it was only a matter of time before Australia had its own craft magazine reflecting the new ‘craft is cool’ vibe. At the recent Stitches and Craft Show I met Justine Telfer, the editor and publisher of Mixtape Magazine. Justine has a background of working as a Sales Rep for record companies. She believes that this has given her a good understanding of sales and marketing and the fact that she is following her passion shines through in the end product. I have to agree, here’s a little more of Justine and Mixtape.

What is Mixtape? It is a self published, predominantly craft maga (ZINE). We feature profiles, tutorials, music, books, eco awareness and pop culture articles. We have just published our 9th Issue.

How is it different to other magazines? It is made with love and not for money. It’s written by crafters, for crafters.

What was your inspiration behind the Mag? My friend and I loved an American craft zine called CROQ. There was nothing like it in Australia so we thought we would do our take on something similar. We also looked to the crafting blog world and the real world.

What is the best thing about editing Mixtape? Getting to choose exactly what I want to go in to each issue!!

Where can Crafters buy it? BrisStyle Markets, Rocking Horse Records and mixtapezine.com Between issues you can visit http://www.mixtapezine.blogspot.com/

I love the Australian Flavour of Mixtape. Its fresh and vibrant look is sure to appeal to Crafters and Artists of all ages.

Thank you for all the positive responses to our new logo. It was designed by local Graphic Design company Clear by Design
