The Crafter's Way 2

I write a weekly craft column for the North Lakes Messenger. I share it with bloggers once it has been published.

With inspirations drawn from near and far, stunning artworks by members of the Queensland Spinners, Weavers and Fibre Artists Group will fill the Mt Coot- tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium from the 23rd to 25th March 2007.

The works on show at this exhibition will provide an intimate insight into the interests and personalities of the artists. Each piece has been created with feeling and understanding for the materials and techniques used. This knowledge of and respect for the medium will be seen in the quality of the works presented by the members.

“Symphony Suspended” by Wendy Sonnenburg is a treat to view. This piece features three large felted sections 2m x 50cm that are suspended from above and hang free from the wall – giving the piece its name.

The photograph is of a felted bag by Mariyen Bardsley titled “Enough Room”. This bag features two extra pockets each with their own clasps.

Some artists will participate in artist talks, which will take place at 11.00am and 2.00pm on the three days of the exhibition. These talks will guide visitors around the exhibition as well as providing insight into the techniques used in the creation of the works.

It will be an exhibition to enjoy and also an opportunity to buy original work – to adorn your body and decorate your home – with our handspun, woven, knitted, crocheted and felted textiles and garments, wall hangings, rugs, jewelry, hand made papers, books and basketry.

Visitors can be involved by voting for the People’s Choice Award and listening to the artists talk about the work, then relax and reflect while enjoying light refreshments in the Gallery cafĂ©.

The exhibition is open from 10am – 4pm on Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th March. For more information contact Wendy Sonnenburg (07) 33517577.
